Rollie Pollie and Outbreak Monkeys - 5 Month Update

Here's our big girl next to Mr. Bear

Both mommy and Maddie have had colds since last weekend. I don't remember the last time I was sick, I think before I was pregnant and this is Maddie's very 1st cold. She isn't a huge fan of the booger sucker (aka the aspirator) but she usually lets me do it without too much struggle. Hopefully we're on the tail end and we get better before long.

Unfortunately she was a bit crabby for Papa, Grandma Lena, and uncle Erik and Aunt Sarah's visit. None of us were sleeping well and she was a bit off her schedule. In fact, she didn't roll over once while they were visiting... a trick she learned a few days after sitting up. I of course didn't take enough photos while they were out here.. hopefully Papa will send the ones from his camera to me.

Here's Grandma Lena making her laugh.. she really had the magic touch

She rolls from her back to her belly but then gets stuck and frustrated when she can't get back. She hangs out for quite awhile on her belly and can lift her head pretty high. She can reach for toys in this position too. We bought safely latches for the cabinets because I have a feeling it won't be long before she's all over the place.

We also bought her a high chair and rice cereal which we plan on starting after she gets over this cold. She watches us eat our food very intently and has started reaching for anything in our hands. Her Dr. gave us the go ahead when we saw him for her 4 month visit. She'll still primarily breast feed, but we thought we'd give it a shot and see how it goes.

Why is it the #1 rated high chair be so darn cutesie-wootsie?..yuck! Don't they know this thing is going to be in our house for a long time and if I wanted more monkeys and lions in my house I would have painted the walls a lush green... instead we went with a Graco model (Contempo- with slim fold) that was also highly rated and much more neutral. Of course she doesn't like the 5 pt harness.. too constricting for this little munchkin, but she'll get use to it. What a perfect perch to fling food from!

Wish us continued success on the sleeping arrangements. We're trying to get her to sleep in her crib rather than in bed with us. We got her down for a few naps and will start working on night sleeping shortly. Wow, what will I do with all my free time? :)

Maddie sits up at 4 1/2 months!!!

Can you believe it??!! We were so excited to return from dinner last night to Sean and Crista's house to find out our little girl sat all by herself. They captured it on video. We filmed her this morning for all her fans to see.

First of all, my early birthday dinner last night was wonderful! First time I had sushi and a beer for over a year AND it was the first time Matt and I left her with someone else. We've left her separately but never together. Fastest dinner ever.. lol we were back within an hour. :)

Back to the person you all came to hear about... Maddie has been grabbing at her toes for a couple of weeks which I think is early for her age but didn't think much of it. Yesterday I put her on her tummy and turned to add something to our diaper bag, I heard her cry and turned around to find her on her back... another milestone! We'll see if she continues to roll over this week. I wonder if that's why she hasn't been sleeping well this week.. she keeps waking up every couple of hours. I read that happens when they reach new milestones and try to do things in their sleep.

She doesn't want to lay down anymore now that she can sit on mom's lap and look around or stand (with our help of course).

She's growing up way to fast... how do I go about slowing that down?

Here's our little sitter!

Month 4 update

Here's Maddie's 4 month photo next to Mr. Bear.

This is the outfit from Uncle Erik and Aunt Sarah, so cute but she's not big on wearing jackets.

Our poor baby girl has been teething this week so lots of drool, gnawing on mom and dad's fingers, increased fussiness and the big one... NO SLEEP! She's been up every hour and a half to nurse at night. I feel so bad for her but still no actual teeth in sight so this is going to go on for awhile. It's too bad on the timing because I wanted to start working on getting her into her crib, but for now it's napping on mom's lap and whatever else it takes to make her happy.

We tried a mommy and me yoga class but it falls right around nap time so after 5 minutes of having her legs massaged, she was done with it. It's more baby massage and some songs than actual yoga. I'm going to try again next week. They have a special right now, 30 days for $15 when the weekly class is normally $15 each so we'll see if it's just the teething causing the problem or if it's a timing issue. Regardless, I'll be glad to learn the skills and hopefully incorporate massage into her nighttime routine. I wish I could have a mommy massage before bed at night. :)

We had photos taken at JCPenney on Wednesday.. our appointment was at 10:40am and we were there until 2:00 pm... ugh, don't ask! At least we got some super cute photos in the end and that's what counts. I should be getting a copy of them via email next week so I'll be sure to post and of course we'll have copies going to the grandmas and grandpas.

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead on Saturday before bed..yay for daylight savings!!! Matt pointed out that the only difference will be, it'll be light when we go to bed at 7:30. Ha!
